After you download this file, please read this entire manual. It will help you play this game.
First of all, the version of Zenalok that you have loaded is version one. It does not have all of the components in the complete Zenalok package. To receive the entire Zenalok package, you must send in your shareware payments. You will receive the following on receipt of the shareware payments:
IT IS A UNIQUE SYSTEM WHERE YOU CAN TRY THE PROGRAMS BEFORE YOU PAY FOR THEM.
I am asking the fee of only $10.00 for the complete package. This version only has one level, but will let you see the features of Zenalok. Once you are registered, feel free to distribute the program to others, but remind them that they must pay shareware fees also.
You do not have to pay if you do not believe this program is worth the money. If you do not pay, please delete your copy, and write me a letter on GE Mail (address is J.PAYNE8) telling me why you did not like it. I hope that I will be able to correct the problems in future games.
When the game opens, you will see a background map. Your character is not on the screen at this time, so you can load characters, etc., without disturbing the game. Once you execute a move command, the character will appear.
Movement commands:
Up arrow Move up
Down arrow Move down
Left arrow Move left
Right arrow Move right
If you glance around the screen, several squares will appear, and they are colored. The red squares with yellow lettering are the palaces. You must beat the palace on the map before you can progress to a new level. (In the shareware version, if you beat the first palace, the game will end)
There are also blue squares. These are towns. You can enter and purchase items, weapons and armor.
The black squares, labeled GATE, are very important. Enter these to win special weaponry, armor, items and gold. Some levels are protected by gates.
Eventually, you will meet a monster. They are red spirit-like creatures, the same size as you. A message box will appear notifying you, then the battle window will pop-up. On the left side are four buttons. On the right side is the monster's picture. (See below for combat details)
Combat Details
The four buttons are:
Fire Gun Fires your weapon
Run Run away
Use Item Drink potion, ignite explosive, etc.
Cast Spell Cast magic spell
You can also click the gun cursor on the monster to simulate pressing the fire gun button.
Fire gun calculates your damage, subtract the monster's armor, and inflicts the damage on the monster. Now the monster fights.
Run initiates an attempt to run. There is a 10% chance to run unless it is changed by a spell.
Use Item pops up a dialog prompting you for the item to use. There are many items.
Cast Spell also pops up a dialog prompting you for the spell to cast.
When you and the monster have gone, a line of text at the bottom of the window reminds you of your previous action.
This continues until someone a) runs, or b) dies.
Menu Commands
You can move using menu commands also, instead of the arrows. You can cast non-combat spells or view all of your spells with the menus. You can also view your character's statistics.
You can set program options by using preferences, simple self-explanatory preferences. Mouse functions allow you to click the right mouse button to initiate a common command. The command prompts item runs the character maker or other Zenalok accessory.
